Pleasanton’s Rise Playground
RRM Design Group recently completed the Pleasanton All-Abilities Playground Master Plan. The community outreach process was extensive and included the general public, focus group stakeholders, several City Commissions including the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Youth Commission, and City Council. The outreach events consisted of a combination of in-person events as well as virtual presentations, workshops, and community-wide surveys. Ultimately, the community selected and Council adopted the concept titled Pleasanton’s Rise Playground. The theme is focused on encouraging individuals to rise to their own unique potential and experience the joy of encouraging others to do the same. The design includes play features and activities that allow people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to play and gather side by side. The focal point in the central play area is a butterfly structure with ramps, slides, climbers, and best of all an accessible zipline coming off it. Other notable design elements include kite sculptures, cloud mound climbers, the rainbow road of music, star-shaped quiet pods, a challenge course, a walking circuit with fitness stations, and a gathering lawn with a slightly elevated stage for storytelling and small impromptu performances. The next step in the process is to raise funds for the implementation of the playground.
