Newark Zoning Code Update
RRM Design Group is preparing a comprehensive update of the City of Newark’s zoning regulations. The current version of the Zoning Ordinance was adopted in 1965. While it has since been amended several times in response to community concerns and to reflect changes in State and federal law, the adoption of the General Plan update in 2013 has created both an obligation and an opportunity for another comprehensive update.
The new ordinance will implement the City’s General Plan in a concise and user-friendly set of regulations. The new regulations are written to be predictable, understandable, and enforceable. A streamlined approval process is established for conforming projects. The updated ordinance has a new format and organization, eliminating unnecessary regulations and repetition and makes extensive use of graphics to reduce wordiness.
