Mountain View Apartments in Fillmore

Completed in March 2022, Mountain View consists of 42 town-style homes and 35 flats totaling 77 new apartment homes. Built as workforce housing for low-income families, several amenities were incorporated on-site including a community room, two playgrounds, laundry facilities, a multipurpose plaza, guest parking, and attached garages for numerous units. Additionally, aligning with its namesake, many units contain balconies that overlook the nearby ridgeline.

Beyond these amenities, developer Many Mansions, partnered with local organizations to incorporate a range of support services. The community offers children and family services including free after-school programs, food assistance, and adult life skills courses. Furthermore, an on-site library was implemented through a partnership with the Ventura County Library.

Community context was heavily considered throughout the project design. From the farmhouse-bungalow architecture to the playground themes to the specific arrangement of units, all elements came back to the framework of the community and future resident use. Despite the larger buildings occupying more than one household, they were designed to resemble individual homes – each unit contains its own street-facing door and private parking to enhance the sense of ownership and individuality.

This project accomplished several community goals, including developing a vibrant, energetic place to live no matter one’s income level, creating uplifting spaces for different age groups (toddlers, children, teens), creating a more pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, and enhancing community character. Not only has this project provided many with safe and secure housing, but it also promises an ongoing investment in resident well-being.
