The city’s nearly $125-million effort to create a revitalized downtown in Thousand Oaks is moving from the concept phase to the design phase.

The city approved an agreement of up to $4.6 million with RRM Design Group for architectural and engineering design and entitlement services. The process will be centered around community input, staff said, with nine upcoming opportunities for residents to participate already planned.

The proposed 106-acre downtown area is centered around the creation of a walkable, bikeable and drivable two-lane, east-west-running main street south of Thousand Oaks Boulevard but north of the 101 Freeway. It would be lined with buildings containing businesses on the first floor and housing on the floors above.
