Franklin Creek Trail

The Franklin Creek Trail Improvement Project is a major initiative by the City of Carpinteria, transforming a flood control maintenance road into a Class I multi-use trail. Implemented on Santa Barbara County Flood Control District property under a cooperative use agreement, the project enhances connectivity and accessibility for the local community. The trail will provide a safe and seamless route to neighborhoods and schools, including Aliso Elementary School.

Key features include a paved Class I trail, safety fencing along the creek channel, planting, trail amenities, and improved street connections. These enhancements will promote active transportation by linking the trail to existing bikeways on Carpinteria Avenue and Seventh Street while preserving mature eucalyptus trees and addressing private property encroachments. The project also integrates with a newly improved pedestrian bridge over the creek channel, further connecting it to the city’s active transportation network.

By transforming an underutilized maintenance road into a valued community resource, the Franklin Creek Trail Improvement Project will enhance safety, accessibility, and environmental stewardship, improving the quality of life for residents.
