In response to concern from parents, the Solvang School District installed a new prep kitchen for their middle school, since food was going cold during the long trip from the old lower campus main kitchen to upper campus. This created an opportunity for the school to also extend their curriculum and offer a hands-on culinary arts program for students who could use this kitchen as a classroom and get a head start on career technical education. RRM Design Group embarked on this transformative project bringing an international touch with Danish modern style to redefine the school’s design language while seamlessly integrating it with the town’s identity. Our central objective was to create a distinct and welcoming entrance, reflecting the community’s ethos and upgrading the drop-off area for enhanced safety and convenience. Our team prioritized selecting materials for their durability and aesthetic appeal, and carefully chose low-maintenance plants to enrich the green spaces. We strategically placed monuments to uniquely distinguish each side of the campus, fostering a sense of individuality within a cohesive design. Ultimately, our team’s goal was to meet the school’s functional needs while crafting an engaging and harmonious environment that resonates with the diverse preferences of the school community.
