The Process
INTERIOR DESIGN IS IS THE INTERSECTION OF ARCHITECTURE AND LIFE. What follows is a helpful guide to let you know what to expect from RRM’s interior design process. Let’s begin!
1. CLIENT CONSULTATION
This is when we get to know you and your project! Through meetings and site visits, we establish needs, objectives, and goals. We’ll ask questions ranging from functions, who will be using the space, and even equipment requirements. Measurements and photos will also be taken at this time.
2. SCHEMATIC DESIGN
In the schematic design phase, space planning and furniture layouts are developed. Circulation patterns and minimum clearances are considered and applied to the floor plan. Rough sketches and elevations are created, preliminary furniture and finish ideas are developed and brought to you for review.
3. DESIGN Development
After final approval of the schematic design, the team develops floor plans, elevations, and other related items in greater detail. Colors and finishes are refined, furniture, fabrics, and equipment are selected, and cost estimates are prepared. The resulting design is presented to you for review, revision, and final approval.
4. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION
During this phase, the specific details of the work to be completed are documented, including millwork specification, finish selections such as flooring, paint, lighting, and electrical layouts. Additionally, bids are obtained, contractors selected, and purchase orders are issued.
5. CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION
This is the final stage where things are built and installed. The designer is often onsite during “installation” to ensure items are received in good condition, installed correctly, and that documents have been followed properly.
