Sierra Madre Cottages offers 40 rental units
Applications are now available for Sierra Madre Cottages, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing’s (PSHH) newest affordable housing for seniors in Santa Maria. Primary applicants must be 62 years or older and have good credit and rental history. A lottery will be held to determined order of application processing.
Applications are available from a dropbox outside the office of Mariposa Townhomes, 290 Parkview South, Orcutt, CA; by email at smc@pshhc.org; or online at www.pshhc.org. To receive a mailed application, call 805-318-7828.

Applications must be received by Friday, April 17, to be eligible for the lottery; those received after that date will be placed on a waiting list.
Sierra Madre Cottages (40 rental units at 665 Sierra Madre Ave., Santa Maria) offers a community center and garden and is conveniently located near transportation, neighborhood services, and recreational opportunities.
The development includes energy-saving features such as increased insulation, tankless water heaters, and higher HVAC efficiency.
Funding partners for Sierra Madre Cottages include the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, city of Santa Maria, county of Santa Barbara, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, Montecito Bank & Trust, Bank of America, Enterprise Community Partners, California Community Reinvestment Corp., and the Housing Trust Fund of Santa Barbara County.
Development partners include Rea & Luker Architects and RRM Design Group.
Founded in 1970, PSHH is the longest-serving nonprofit affordable housing organization on the Central Coast. PSHH serves low-income households, working families, seniors, veterans, those living with disabilities and the formerly homeless.
It also provides homeownership opportunities through a self-help, sweat-equity program that has seen some 1,200 homes successfully completed. PSHH has a presence in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
